New Orphanage - Aquila Center

The Opportunity

Through a generous gift from a Friends of Vietnam Ministries donor, we are launching the building a new orphanage outside of Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Need

Our partner in this project, Pastor Nam Quoc Trung recently learned of children along the border with Laos that are being forced into the drug trade.  Trung has rescued forty of these so far, twenty-nine of which are under the age of 16.  They are currently housed in temporary accommodations, but the younger children will transition to the new orphanage once it is completed.

The Orphanage

The orphanage will consists of several buildings and will be able to support 150 orphan and at-risk children. There will be a kitchen, dining area, classrooms, and offices for the staff, along with the rooms to house the children.

Our Partner

Several decades ago, Nam Quoc Trung had been incarcerated a dozen times for being a drug addict and for crimes he committed in getting money to support his drug addiction.  Upon leaving prison In 2000, Trung went through a major transformation as he began reading the Bible and as he left drug and alcohol dependency. He returned to various prisons—this time teaching the Bible to those incarcerated.  He also began building a drug rehabilitation center, called “Aquila Center,” that has helped several hundred men leave drug addiction.  Recently "Priscilla Center" was completed, that helps women leave drug addiction.

In 2012, when President Obama visited Vietnam, Trung, now Pastor Trung, was one of six private Vietnamese citizens that the President asked to meet with.  More recently, Pastor Trung was one of the individuals instrumental in getting Franklin Graham’s visits to Vietnam.
